Welcome To ConAlope - Westercon 70

Welcome to Westercon 70, home of the most prestigious regional science fiction and fantasy convention on the West Coast. We are sponsored by Leprecon Inc., which is responsible for the yearly convention LepreCon. As such, Leprecon Inc.’s 2017 event - Leprecon 43 - will be combined as a part of Westercon 70.

Each Westercon is given the opportunity to chose a unique name to distinguish itself, so we are officially branding our 2017 event “ConAlope”. As Westercon is a pop culture event that celebrates both sci-fi and fantasy, we decided to have a little fun with our theme this year and melded the two genres. We are commemorating the 70th anniversary of not only Westercon, but also of the crash landing of a UFO (or a military surveillance balloon) in Roswell, New Mexico on July 8th, 1947. We suggest that the stranded aliens wrangled a horde of frisky jackalopes and rode northwest to Tempe, Arizona. Those silly, pesky aliens and jackalopes alike may well make an appearance at Westercon!

Westercon 70 At Westercon 69: Portland

The Chair, Dee Astell, Vice Chair Hal Astell and Treasurer Kevin McAlonan recently attended Westercon 69 in Portland. ConAlope – Westercon 70 – hosted a few rambunctious and very successful room parties to get everyone pumped for the upcoming year. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by to meet us and say hello! We are very excited for Westercon 70 now that we are officially less than a year away!

INTRODUCING OUR AUTHOR GUEST OF AUTHOR: CONNIE WILLIS

Westercon 70 is pleased to announce our Author Guest of Honor: Connie Willis. Connie is one of the most successful science fiction writers in history. She has won eleven Hugos (including three for Best Novel) and seven Nebulas, among many others; she has been recognised by the Science Fiction Writers of America as their 28th Grand Master and was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2009.
